Wellcome Sanger Institute, Cambridge

Every now and then a project has a particularly special place in our memories and the Wellcome Sanger Institute in Cambridge is a prime example of this for the team at Kingfisher Louvres. It is with great pride that we reflect on this louvre installation for such an important UK research facility.

Back in 2015 Kingfisher supplied the louvres for the Sanger Institute, a centre which houses experts in genome research, and delivers insights into human, evolutionary and pathogen biology. The facility has a strong focus on being at the leading edge of development, application, and implementation of genomics technologies. This focus also applies to the building itself, one of the interesting features of this project is a living wall, which is surrounded by Kingfisher KW100Z louvre blades. A living wall helps to promotes biodiversity and suits the ethos of the facility perfectly.

The louvre install at Sanger was expertly completed by SPS Louvre Systems and was comprised of over 7500m of blade. The project was supplied and installed throughout 2015. This is common for larger projects and Kingfisher will work closely with customers to supply phased deliveries to facilitate a long-term install.

The louvres on this building are up to 8.5m tall, Kingfisher can supply mullions up to 6m long. Anything over 6m can be catered for using the Kingfisher mullion joints to ensure that mullions are aligned correctly during installation, which means there’s no issues when the blades are subsequently fitted. The Kingfisher ‘component form’ louvres can be supplied at any size, their continuous appearance means we can cater for the largest expanse of louvres required – no elevation is too big!

The building also has several integrated louvre doors, which seamlessly install into the elevations, to maintain the continuous appearance of the system. Kingfisher can supply double and single doors in a wide range of blade options, which will perfectly compliment other louvres on your projects.

It’s always great to see products in situ, if you have completed a Kingfisher louvre install, we would love to see your photos, please send them to info@kingfisherlouvres.com. You can also use this address to send any louvre requirements for review by our Kingfisher team.
