Expert louvre fabrication for Woolwich Creative project

The Woolwich Creative project was designed by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to restore five heritage industrial buildings on the Royal Arsenal, creating a new landmark cultural hub for London. The project aimed to provide large-scale, flexible, performance and event spaces, rehearsal studios, rooms for community events and celebrations, bars, and a café. The site is home to several local, national, and internationally renowned resident artistic companies.

Kingfisher were approached for assistance with the louvre elements on this project. The project had two areas where louvres were required; the first of these were some circular louvres required to replace existing vents. The second was a complex, angled louvre screen on the roof. Both elements required specialist fabrication to ensure the products met the design vision for the project.

Kingfisher rose to the challenge manufacturing eight 1200mm diameter circular louvres. The specialist fabrication involved curved perimeter flashings, with a bespoke cut for both sides of every blade to suit the curved edges. The mullion centres within the circles also had to be much closer than usual in order to capture the different sized blades ensuring stability and long-lasting quality.

The louvres for this scheme were mostly for visual screening so Kingfisher KC120 louvres were the natural choice as the KC120 blades are designed specifically for aesthetic screening purposes. The extended front face of the blade profile is perfect for shielding plant/machinery from view.

The roof screen for the project has an overall height of almost 4m and was designed to mimic the pitch of the roof running alongside it. This required some brilliant designing by our customer, Leyton Group coupled with expert fabrication by the Kingfisher production team. Mitred cuts were required for the blades and mullions to create the shapes required and the products had to be cut to an exacting tolerance, all this coupled with a fantastic install has created a very visually unique project.
