One Berkeley Street, Mayfair, London
Located in London’s prestigious Mayfair conservation area, facing the Ritz, this project saw the transformation
of two 1970s buildings into a vibrant mixed-use development, showcasing an innovative approach to urban regeneration.
The completed 19,500m² development includes the first ‘1 Hotel’ outside North America, retail spaces and offices, being notable for retaining 81% of the original structures.
Three new extensions have also been incorporated – a two-storey rooftop extension, a new pavilion at the corner of Dover Street and a small annex building within Dover Yard.
The project won the Best Mixed-Use Scheme at the Building London Planning Awards in October 2024.
The solution
With a large amount of plant equipment situated on the roof of this development, a key requirement was to provide
screening and sound attenuation for added protection. To ensure the correct louvre product was specified, the Kingfisher Louvres Technical Sales team and architects, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris collaborated for many months prior to the installation, undertaking extensive design work to meet the detailed brief.
The solution was a total of 646 Kingfisher KA acoustic louvre modules and Kingfisher KC120 screening louvres which were supplied to our client, DE Group Contracting.
The acoustic louvre modules were supplied at different depths to meet the varying sound attenuation requirements – there were 245 of the KA150/20 modules and 401 of the KA270/20 modules plus 1,600 m of KC120 screening louvre blade and 10 single doors for areas where no acoustic attenuation was required. In addition to the above, bespoke penetrations were needed through some of the acoustic louvres for a mansafe support system with each penetration requiring a specially designed unit.
The aluminium louvres were fabricated at our Nottinghamshire factory and coated with a matt PPC finish to RAL 7047. A dedicated project team created a special assembly line for the production of the louvres and every louvre panel had an individual reference that tallied with a layout schedule to ensure an accurate install. They were supplied on a phased basis over a ten month period with all site deliveries having to meet stringent delivery timescales, particularly with the restrictions of a busy central London location.
